If you are here for my Fall into Fall giveaway, please scroll
down to the next post.
Last spring our guild program coordinator gave all the members
a 5" strip of ugly blue fabric for an upcoming challenge. Notice
it in the center, the southwest blue fabric with the elk and bear?
About 10 days ago I stitched up this 32" X 36" premie quilt for
the challenge. I wanted to try the Zig Zag pattern and thought
this would be the perfect opportunity. Notice the layout, no triangles.
I love it! Hate triangles!
I first saw this method on the Bee Square blog which featured
Amandajean's tutorial.
Notice I added another row of squares to the top and bottom of
the quilt in this next photo. It's that anal- retentive side that won't
allow me to cut off the points. I hope someone can relate?
(If you decide to make this quilt, you will notice that Amandajean
instructs you to cut the points off the top and bottom of the quilt.)
This is a simple alteration with a more stunning look.
(If you aren't sure what I'm referring to, bring up Amandajeans
tutorial and compare the photo's.)
And here's the finished quilt. No one will know I didn't
cut all those triangles. I'm so excited for another finish with
all the projects I have in progress. This quilt will be donated
to a local hospital on behalf of our guild, after the challenge
of course.
Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful creative day!
Kim

What a wonderful "hug" quilt Kim!! I like your version better :0)
Crispy
I've seen this method but have yet to try it. It's going to make someone very happy so have a warm, cozy, and beautiful quilt.
Very pretty. The ugly fabric turned very nice.
Great quilt and it fits the challenge perfectly! Love your little secret method.
That looks great! I like your version better too!
You made that ugly fabric look good! I like your anal-retentive finish for the quilt, too ;-)
Kim, simple as it is, it is quite appealing..sew reminds me of the 60s, ric rac was seen everywhere...

Kim the quilt looks great! I love it!
How very clever! It looks confusing, but apparently it's not. I don't think the blue is ugly, well perhaps it is by itself, but you made it fit nicely. I can't picture this quilt being as nice without it!
Ok, this is just amazing - no triangles - what a great pattern! That blue doesn't look so ugly now, does it? This turned out just beautifully! I do like how you added an extra strip to the top and bottom, excellent quilt!
Very nice and now the ugly fabric looks beautiful with all the others.
It's beautiful!
cool quilt! I love the zig-zag design, and have been wanting to try Amanda Jean's technique with no triangles. I love the touch you put on the ends.
Wonderful quilt. Thanks for sharing
A super quilt with a very clever process. Looks great!
Beautiful quilt!
Great quilt Kim. Love the effect and very cleaver way of constructing it. Enjoy Nat
What a nice thing to do - premie quilts filled with love. So very nice of you. And as I always say there is a hug in every stitch.
Sweet.......how to make an ugly fabric nearly invisible.
Nice preemie quilt...I hope it gets lots of loving :0).
Happy sewing
This method is so cool. Your quilt is beautiful.! Love your blog have been lurking for some time now.
I love the Zig Zags Kim. Looks like even I could do that! LOL
I'm not a half square triangle fan either. I saw Amanda Jeans tutorial some time ago but just have not gotten around to making one. I'm glad it's as easy as it appeared!
this is beautiful..love it
