Man is this a true statement!!
Wouldn't you know we decided to take a little road trip in our
motorhome over to California this week for a visit
with my in laws.
motorhome over to California this week for a visit
with my in laws.
They spend the winters in their RV and love the southern
California weather.
California weather.
Who wouldn't? Well not so much this week.
Here we are all settled in next to the winter visitors / snowbirds.
We actually moved to a more roomy space the next day.
( Not so clear photo's taken with the cell phone. )

On Thursday a storm came through with lots of
rain and caused a bit of flooding.
Here we are the next day on the main street of town.
A small tornado hit the west side of town
knocking down power lines and trees. It
flipped over some trucks on the freeway and
caused damage to houses and businesses.
Fortunately we were on the east side of town and
only a few small tree limbs hit our RV.
It was a little nerve racking at times, even my little
doggies scurried under furniture from the loud noise.
There was a widespread power outage overnight, good
thing we have a generator. We stayed toasty warm
with heat and lights for the night.
Today the skies are sunny and blue again.

On the way here we pass the tiny town of Quartzsite, Arizona,
population a whopping 2,000 in the summer months.
This small town is the gathering spot where over a million RV' ers
come every year to park in the desert during the winter months.
Really it's okay, because the snakes and scorpions
are hibernating this time of year.
One of the many tents houses vendors.
You can buy anything under the sun here,
food, crafts, beads, jewelry, gems, stones,
RV supplies, etc.

RV'ers above dry camp in the desert for miles and miles.
There are companies who provide water delivery
and sewer pumping.

The RV parks fill up quickly here.

One of the main attractions in Quartzsite is the annual
Gem and Mineral show going on this weekend.
All of these rocks from around the world are for sale.
There are plenty of rock polishers in the park here.

Look at the custom paint job on this RV.
Very patriotic colors!!
Look at the bright colors of this GMC RV.
Can you guess what year it is??

Thanks for stopping by and have a creative day.

We've been seeing the reports of flooding on our local news, just amazing. That little town is neat - it really turns into a big city in winter!
I'm really glad the tornado missed you!
Can't imagine that much flooding. Then again, if i know we are getting that much rain, I stay home;) That is quite the RV park, neat that they have vendors for the campers.
Debbie
That is quite the storm - Hope that that is the end of the rain-
I had no concept of how large an RV park would be -
The gem show would be awe inspiring. I went to a local rock store today because they were having a sale- I did get some really nice deals on some pieces ( 60 percent off the regular price) so that was nice. I love rocks - they are so interesting. I really enjoy making things with beads as well- its lots of fun and you can make something relatively quickly.
Thanks for sharing..
Happy RVing,
Regards,
Anna
What an adventure! And they say it rains too much here in Washington!!
Love Quartzite. Whatever drew all those snowbirds there in the first place, the sun?
Flooding is not a good thing especially when you are trying to vacation. Nothing like camping out with a million of your best friends LOL.

Hi Kim!
I used to live in So Cal and it NEVER rains and when it even drizzles, everyone freaks out! I can only imagine how crazy it got with that much rain.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Wow, what a cool trip! except for all that rain, flooding and tornado! I love seeing that picture of Quartzsite, with all those RVs and the tent in the middle. Do you take your doggies with you on these trips? In spite of the storms, looks like a nice getaway.
Interesting photolog of snow birding - not sure if I'm ready for that yet.
That was fun seeing your RV adventure. My husband and I would like to travel with a 5th wheel some day. I don't think I have ever seen so many campers in one place like that. Very interesting.
Wow...and I thought our little town grew in the winter with the snow birds...
We soo enjoyed the rain...didn't get as much as southern Cal...but we got more last week in four days than in all of 2009!!!
Great post and pictures - thanks!
That is alot of rain.
We lived in Missouri where there always tornados but alot of snow too.
We did have quite a bit of rain, but for most of us it was a treat. I do feel for the people forced to evacuated and those who suffered damage as a result of the flooding and tornado. There was even a small tornado in Ventura. Very strange weather for us here, but we need the rain sooooo badly. Of course it would be nice to get it spread over a few weeks instead of a couple of days!
Thanks for sharing your RV adventures. I think it would be lots of fun to try that, although I always think of RVing as a way to get away from people! LOL
Wow Kim, what an adventure!
that was an interesting post! love the photos of the bright green rv interior, I'm guessing the early seventies?
Kim, I have no idea why I haven't been on your blog before - I apologize. But, now I'm a follower and had to immediately say I KNOW about Quartzite!! Oh my word - I TOTALLY relate to these picks. No, we haven't been there during their annual BIG show but know about the RVers going there, etc.
We used to live in Palm Desert, CA and traveled through Quartzite SO many times - their McDonald's line is always SO SO long.
Where in Southern CA are these pics, Kim?
