DIY Door Makeover

Yesterday was a gorgeous day with a high of 88 degrees, so I decided to take advantage of our last cool day and finish my front door project.  The outside of our door looked faded and weathered after years of exposure to the extreme dry heat here in the summers.   It's a beautiful old hardwood door and a little make over will do wonders.

Better get a before photo -  well almost I already started here

I pulled out 6 small nails and filled the

 holes with wood filler.

Then I dragged out my little Black & Decker Mouse and

started sanding.

Now that my fingers are numb I'm ready to paint.

 (Barn red to Forbidden red)

After  -      3 coats of paint and I'm finished.

The effort was really worth it, considering the door panels

look transparent and you can see the beautiful woodgrain.

How's that for a makeover   -  Drab to Fab

It looks like a new door  and a little more welcoming.

I love how it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by and have a creative day.

I love that - drab to fab! Definitely looks better, and it sounds like it was really easy to do yourself. I'm impressed!

Very nice, Kim. It looks beautiful! That was a lot of hard work, and I'm amazed that you could do it in 88 degree temperatures. That sounds like a hot day to me, not the last cool one. I would have wilted after just pulling out the 6 small nails. ;)

Love your "new" door! I re-did mine two years ago and it was so much fun and very rewarding! I did mine Black, certainly not as exciting as your lovely Red!! Great job!

88 degrees is your last cool day? Boy, it must get really hot there, I'm amazed you were able to do all that hard work in that heat.
The door does look wonderful though.

Love the red, RED door. It's been a dream of mine to have a red front door, but our house is peach, not by choice, and not in the budget to paint it yet. So, I'll just enjoy yours! smiles, pokey

I love a red door! There is something so bright and happy but yet very traditional about it.

A red door is so inviting and yours is even more so since you did so much prep work to make it turn out well!
