Happy New Year!

I hope your New Years festivities were good.  I enjoyed visiting so many blogs and viewing the projects that everyone completed last year.  Sorry I have been absent here,  I have been so busy the past two weeks.  Life certainly gets in the way sometimes.

My guild has started a challenge this year to finish UFO's.  Every quarter we will each throw in a batik fat qtr and whoever finishes the most UFO's wins for the quarter.  This is exactly the encouragement I need to finish up my UFO's.  My goal is to finish a few oldies but goodies, (UFO's) throughout the year and also push myself to explore my creativity and work on something I'm passionate about small journal art quilts.

First I hope to finish my moose quilt, I believe there is one star block left to make.  I tried to focus my efforts on this quilt last year, but neglected to finish it when I signed up for some classes on hand applique.

If you remember I took several classes during the year, one technique was learning how to use colored pencils on fabric and hand quilting the dresses on my Children of the 30's blocks. In addition to the children blocks are hex blocks that separate the blocks.

Block 1

My plan is to work on these every month and hopefully finish them by year-end.

Block 2

I also started this quilt top with Rouinneries charm fabrics during the year.   I would be happy to get the borders added and send it off to the quilter.

I didn't share this quilt with you during the year, I think I started it back in September.  I had a few blocks that I previously cut out for a Mystery quilt I wasn't fond of, so I added a few more fabrics and made this simple brights and batik quilt.  I stopped dead in my tracks when I ran short on one of the fabrics.  This is what happens when you wing it and design a pattern as you go.  I wonder if all designers have this problem occasionally or if they sketch everything out first, measure and plan ahead?  With any luck I'll come up with an alternative plan and finish the side borders.

This is just a sampling of my UFO projects,  I'm a great starter, but slow to finish before I get excited about the next new project.   I'll be back to share my progress, wish me luck!  What are you working on lately?

Later today I plan to start some pinwheel blocks for a quilt my sister and I are making for my sister-inlaw.

Thanks for stopping by and have a creative day!

Good luck in your UFO endeavor! I'll be rooting for you! I've been thinking along the same lines - to finish some (or all) of my UFO's. But instead of finishing them myself, I might be giving some of them away! lol!

You just have the prettiest UFO's! I have those children designs, I wonder if I'll ever start them, lol! Your moose is just darling. As you're on the path to finishing your projects, remember to enjoy the process - and I hope you win some batiks along the way!

A great post, Kim, and I'm so glad to see the children of the 30's back! I'll especially be watching for progress on that, have always loved those blocks. The blue dress on Block 2 is especially wonderful!
I don't know about all designers, but when I make something, it's planned as I go. I often run out of things, but you will find a way around it, I'm sure. Happy New Year to you too!

Your work always amazes me. I love the moose and the 30's gals. Your imagination and creativeness shows in each and everyone. I am blessed to be the owner of several of you works.

Wow Kim! I love those little girls. I've never seen anything like that before. The french general fabric is one of my favorites too. I have some waiting in the closet until I decide what to do with it. What batik fabric did you run out of? I have some batiks I'd be glad to look thru.
